Here you will find access to the digital collections of the Herbaria Basel:

• Digitized herbarium specimens from the Herbarium of the University of Basel (BAS) and the Herbarium of the Basel Botanical Society (BASBG).
• The "World Orchid Iconography," including digitized herbarium specimens from the Jany Renz Herbarium (RENZ) and orchid images.

Digital access is under continuous development. This is how to limit your search to specific subcollections at the moment:

• To access the herbarium of the Basel Botanical Society, please enter "BASBG" in the "Barcode" field.
• To access the "World Orchid Iconography", please enter "RENZ" in the "Barcode" field.
• To access the Herbarium of Caspar Bauhin (1560-1624), please enter "BAS-B" in the "Barcode" field (currently only partially searchable).

Further access to historical collections from the 16th to 17th centuries is currently being developed. Contact the curatorial team for further information.

Digitization has been made possible through generous external funding:

• The Foundation for the Promotion of Plant Knowledge and the Basel Botanical Society (2012-2024; BASBG-Herbarium).
• SwissCollNet (2022-2024; historical herbaria, ferns, Sarasin collections).
• Volunteers from the Swiss Orchid Foundation facilitated the creation of the "World Orchid Iconography" (until 2016).
